Children’s mental health and sense of security are critical components of childhood and long-term well-being. Children become vulnerable to trafficking, sexual exploitation, and abuse when there is a threat of insecurity. The lack of education, social support, health care, and economic opportunity harms children’s future. Human dignity is central to DUGSI’s development and relief efforts. At the centre of DUGSI’s efforts to maintain social protection measures are marginalized groups, particularly disadvantaged children and women. The purpose of DUGSI in child protection is to prevent and respond to child neglect and abuse in times of emergency and other disasters. Emergencies can last for a long time beyond the initial catastrophe. They demand effective and long-term solutions to provide children with both short-term and long-term protection.
DUGSI staff are well-trained and receive extensive safeguarding training, which includes safeguarding processes and best practices. Advice and information about safeguarding are also widely accessible on DUGSI’s manuals for field staff, and information is shared with others so that any warning signals can be identified and addressed as soon as possible.
DUGSI undertakes community awareness and education programs to inform and teach communities about particular children who are suffering or are at risk of experiencing major harm, as well as the prevention of all forms of child rights violations and how to respond during emergencies.
To protect children and youth groups, DUGSI follows the following principles: Protecting children from abuse and maltreatment, preventing harm to children’s health or development, ensuring children grow up with safe and effective care, and taking action to ensure that all children and young people have the best outcomes. It is our responsibility to identify, record, respond to, and report any safeguarding concerns when we come into contact with someone who may be vulnerable.
